Inclusive Technology of Washington is a non-profit in the state of Washington started in 2024 for the following purpose: Engage and empower Washington’s communities of individuals with special needs and underserved populations through technology while teaching essential life skills. Because we recognize that there is a digital divide and within these communities, we provide access to educational resources, training, and support to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusivity and independence. We believe this access will ultimately enable these communities to thrive in all aspects of life.

Our 5-year vision is to Provide every individual who asks who experiences special needs or is an underserved population in King County, Pierce County, and other regions as resources allow, the opportunities expressed in the mission statement without worrying about the financial burdens.

Job description

Primary Responsibility

Part time instructor for video production, coding and Microsoft office for children, youth, and adults with special needs and those in underserved communities.

We currently use Scratch, Code.Org, Epic, Cyberlink PowerDirector, Reallusion Crazytalk 2D Cartoon Animator, and Reallusion iClone 3D animator, and Hues Stop Motion Capture amongst our tools.

 

Other Responsibilities

  1. As a growing company your input will be requested in every aspect of company growth from recommending technology, developing programming, developing client profiles, to providing feedback on how the company interacts with you as the employee and creating benefits packages.

  2. Maintain open communications with company about boundaries.

  3. Must have access to a car and you can transport all equipment safely to and from your home to the classes, and workshops.  (We supply equipment). Travel time compensation available for commutes above a normal 45 minute (one way) commute time.

  4. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

General:

  • Emphasis with all the programs is on developing teamwork, self-advocacy, and leadership skills.

  • Time in your work week will be allotted for lesson plan development.

 

Work hours and location​

  • This position starts with 6-7hrs of work/wk with some additional hours for training with the potential to take on more days starting mid-fall.

  • Classes are either one on one or in small groups (typically up to 4 - larger classes would have assistants to help). 

  • Mondays in Enumclaw from 11:30am - 5:15pm.

    • Training for this role will be a combination of online training and in person training for a few weeks from 9am - 2:30pm on Thursdays in Enumclaw before the normal Monday classes start up. 

  • Fridays in Maple Valley will likely become available later this fall and that would run from 3:45pm – 8pm with the current schedule, possibly expanding to start earlier in the day.  

  • We do have several online students so several hours of online classes (work from home) may become available and can be scheduled within the teacher's availability.

  • More days may become available later this year or early next year making this position up to 30hrs/wk which could include Tuesdays in Tukwila, Thursdays in Kirkland, Saturdays in Kent, Sundays in Issaquah, or other locations and days we are able to secure. 

 

Work Skills Required

  • In order to qualify to teach our Life Skills classes teachers are required to have at least a Bachelors in a field related to students with special needs. This could be Disability Studies, Sociology, Psychology or Special Education. 

  • Experience in some form of video production and/or coding is highly desired, although you will have an opportunity to learn what you don't know.

  • Strong skills in navigating around a computer and troubleshooting basic computer functions (such as file storage, internet connections, audio, and user interface).

  • The ability to lead students over Microsoft teams, as some students request online classes.

  • Strong people skills and the ability to lead small groups, and to work with people of a variety of backgrounds and skill levels/special needs. Most of the participants with special needs are fairly low support needs, but may need assistance and structure to stay on task.

 

Job Type: Part Time

Pay:

 $28 per hour 

As the organization grows we expect to add benefit packages for those who stay with us long term.
